Developing her passion for learning Data Science helps her grow as a professional every day. Putting the knowledge into action just shows that she has chosen the right career path for her.
Meet Ljupka Sakaliska from the Data Science Bootcamp – Student of the Month for January.
In this interview, Ljupka shares why she decided to enroll in the Data Science Bootcamp and how diving deep into data makes her day.
Tell us a bit about yourself. What were you doing before you came to Brainster?
Regarding my educational background, I have obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Business Statistics from the Faculty of Economics and my Master’s degree in Statistical Methods for Business and Economics.
In the past 12 years, I have been working in the public sector in the area of Statistics. I am working with data in my everyday activities, mainly in data collection, quality checking, and reporting.
What is your typical day in Brainster’s Data Science Bootcamp?
When we have classes (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays), the day is about preparation for the class, mainly repeating the material from the last class and checking the additional exercises assigned by the instructor.
In the days without classes, I spend my spare time repeating the material learned in the previous days, doing the homework exercises, and assignments for the week.
In general, the whole week is about learning Data Science. At the end of the day, you feel satisfied with the new knowledge and skills gained.
Since the Bootcamp is remote, how do you collaborate with your colleagues and instructors?
The collaboration with colleagues and instructors is on a very high level. We share our solutions, questions, and thoughts during the classes via Zoom.
Also, we communicate on the Slack channel whenever we need help with something. Instructors are open to collaboration and always ready for additional explanation and support.
The fact that the Bootcamp is remote is a significant advantage for me. We can always work from the comfort of our homes, and at the same time, function with colleagues and instructors from different locations.
From the first class of Data Science Bootcamp, I remember…
A positive mixed feeling of excitement, confusion, curiosity, and meeting my colleagues from the group for the first time.😊
Did you have any coding experience before applying to this Bootcamp?
No, I didn’t have any experience in coding. I was an absolute beginner.
Since you started learning, what has been the most challenging thing so far?
The most challenging thing for me was completely changing my mindset on approaching Data Analysis. I also feel challenged by what will come in the following modules and the actual project that we will work on.
What area in Data Science have you set out to master?
From the knowledge I have gained so far, I find myself somewhere between Business Analyst and Data Engineer. However, I am eager to study the new modules and find many more exciting areas that might catch my attention.
Any last bits of advice that you would give to potential students who want to break into Data Science in 2022?
I would encourage anyone determined to start working on broadening their knowledge in Data Science and apply for the Data Science Bootcamp as soon as possible.
I am not saying it is easy, but the time you spend learning is valuable. You will be satisfied at the end of the day for sure.
