The key to successful learning is balance between organization and self motivation

„Prepare to enter a whole new world of limitless ideas and possibilities – UX/UI is giving you the opportunity to learn on a daily basis, regardless the education background and previous working experience.“

This is the most valuable advice from our student Gracijela Maltašić to all those who plan to learn UX/UI Design in 2022.

In this interview, Gracijela shares her motivation to keep going even though things seem impossible to learn.

What is your secret sauce when it comes to learning?

I would like to say that the key to my successful learning is balance between organization and self motivation – one is not working without the other. Even though sometimes things can be challenging, I remember my end goal which makes me push through all the difficulties. Everything appears to be a lot easier after understanding all of the benefits that any learning process might provide in the future.

What was very challenging, but also something that you are proud to have achieved during the Focus on Visual Design?

It is difficult to summarize multiple points in a single sentence, but I believe that being confident in what I am doing is the most crucial! In this module, we combined everything we have learned so far and I am proud that I can handle all the steps of the given project.

What was the best learning experience and support for you in this module?

Definitely our mentor for this module – Martina! Every sentence and every story she shared with us is valuable information that can be used in our future. She shared a lot of different approaches, experiences and ideas with us and I believe that she is a perfect example of the mentor. Martina surpassed my expectations as she had my back 24/7 if there was something that I wanted to discuss. In addition to everything said, I would also like to point out the project we have the opportunity to work on. Talking to the “real” clients, hearing their feedback really had a significant impact on my work.

Can you tell us how you felt at the start of the unit vs. at the end?

I have to say that, before we started with this unit, I felt like there were a lot of things I still needed to connect in order to move forward with the bootcamp in general. After our first lecture with our mentor Martina, I concentrated on what I had already learnt so far – this gave me confidence to continue the learning process and enrich my knowledge. I’d like to point out that everything fell back into place at the end of the module. After receiving this amount of feedback, I am aware of my strong sides as well as areas that may be improved for future work.

Can you share one thing that you are most proud of achieving?

I am proud of myself for taking the risk of entirely changing my life by pursuing a new career route. Aside from that, I’ve been able to learn and implement so many things in the previous few months – working on a real-life project really gives you an idea of what’s out there and where you may picture yourself in the future.

Any last bits of advice that you would give to potential students who want to break into UX/UI Design in 2022?

Prepare to enter a whole new world of limitless ideas and possibilities – UX/UI is giving you the opportunity to learn on a daily basis, regardless the education background and previous working experience.

„Gracijela is a very friendly and communicative, engaged, and a top performing student. She always puts an extra mile to the task at hand, but she also helps organise and carry big parts of the team work – positioning herself as one of the most reliable team members. She was eager to learn and welcomed all the inputs and feedback, which she implemented in the next given opportunity – this also reflected in her overall top ratings, assessing her outstanding involvement in the project ShareTheMeal.“ – Martina Mitz, an instructor at the UX/UI Design Bootcamp
